Oven & Cooktop Installation

Licensed oven and cooktop installation across Logan, Brisbane Southside and the Northern Gold Coast — dedicated circuits sized correctly, switchboard checks before every install, and compliance certification on completion.

Connecting an oven or cooktop to an undersized circuit is one of the most common causes of nuisance tripping and heat damage in residential kitchens. We size the circuit to the appliance, check switchboard capacity before installation begins, and wire to Australian standard. Whether it is a replacement in an existing location, a new oven in a kitchen renovation, or a modern induction cooktop drawing significantly more current than the old unit — the installation is done to spec.

What this covers

  • Freestanding, underbench and wall oven installation — new locations and direct replacements
  • Induction, ceramic and electric cooktop installation
  • Dedicated circuit installation sized correctly for the appliance — 20-amp or 32-amp as required
  • Existing wiring assessment and upgrade where the current circuit is undersized for the new appliance
  • Rangehood electrical connection
  • Old appliance removal and disposal
  • Combined oven and cooktop installation as part of a kitchen renovation or fit-out
  • Compliance certificate issued on completion

Common questions

Do I need a licensed electrician to install an oven?

Yes. Oven and cooktop installation is prescribed electrical work and must be carried out by a licensed electrician in Queensland. Connecting an appliance to a fixed wiring circuit yourself is not permitted under the Electrical Safety Act and voids your home insurance. This applies to both hardwired ovens and those connected via a dedicated power point.

Can I plug a new oven into an existing power point?

Some ovens are designed to plug into a dedicated 20-amp outlet, but that outlet must be on its own correctly sized dedicated circuit — not shared with other appliances. Many kitchen circuits in older homes were sized for lighter loads and are undersized for modern ovens and induction cooktops. We assess the existing circuit before installation and advise if an upgrade is required.

Do induction cooktops need special wiring?

Yes. Induction cooktops draw significantly more sustained current than older ceramic electric models — most require a dedicated circuit sized to the manufacturer's specification, which is commonly 32 amps. Installing an induction cooktop on a circuit wired for an older appliance is a frequent cause of tripping and potential wiring damage. We check the specifications of the specific model and wire accordingly.

How long does oven installation take?

A direct replacement in an existing location with a correctly sized circuit is typically a one-to-two hour job. If a new dedicated circuit is required — which is common in older homes or where the kitchen layout is changing — allow half a day. We confirm the scope and timeframe when we assess the job.

Can you install an oven and cooktop at the same time?

Yes — and in most cases it is more efficient to do both in a single visit. Combined oven and cooktop installations are common in kitchen renovations and new fit-outs. We assess both appliances together, run the circuits in one job and issue a single compliance certificate covering the complete installation.
